The libraries of the University of Rennes are developing special services to improve accessibility for all users, whether they are students, staff or patrons from outside the university.
A personalised welcome is available, by appointment, in each of the three libraries through the disability contact (details at the right of the page).
Building accessibility
- BU Beaulieu
One parking space reserved for people with reduced mobility is available close to the library.
An outside ramp gives access to the library.
A doorbell with the international symbol of accessibility (the wheelchair symbol) is provided near the front door. When you ring the bell, a librarian come and help you through the doors.
Inside, an elevator with free access serves the floor.
In the reading rooms, priority is given to people with reduced mobility. One of them, located on the first floor, is equipped with a height and tilt-adjustable table.
- BU Centre
One parking space reserved for people with reduced mobility is available on both sides of the BU:
- Rue Lesage side: one space in front of the university restaurant and one space next to the library access ramp.
- Rue de Robien side: one space in front of the CROUS, close to the main cloister entrance and the library access ramp.
An outside ramp gives access to the library:
- Rue Lesage side: during library opening times
- Rue de la Borderie side: access during extended opening hours

Inside, an elevator serves rooms H, I and group work rooms on the first floor.It requires an escort by the staff: please ask at the library reception desk.

- BU Villejean Santé
One parking space reserved for people with reduced mobility is available close to the library.

Collection accessibility
- Borrow documents
The documents available at the BU Centre, the BU Villejean Santé or the BU Beaulieu can be reserved and ready-to-pick-and-collect to the most easily accessible library via the libraries drive service. You can also extend your loans.
- Adaption of copyrighted material
Our university libraries are authorised to adapt copyrighted material at the request of library users.
We can scan documents kept in the libraries of Université de Rennes or those in your possession. You must be enrolled in one of the 3 libraries to use this service.

Specially adapted equipment
Each library provides adapted materials and equipment.
To borrow at the BU reception desk:
- a large print keyboard → to be borrowed at the reception desk
- a trackball mouse (BU Beaulieu only)
- a portable high-brightness light → to be borrowed at the reception desk
- headsets and noise-cancelling headsets
Available in the spaces:
- a height and tilt-adjustable table
- reserved places in the reading rooms for people with reduced mobility
- an individual workspace
- a doorbell to help you pass through the doors
