How to join the Library

The Library offers a range of memberships for all library services .

You don't need to be a member to...

  • Enter the library
  • Sit down in the reading rooms, group study rooms or carrels
  • Consult documents (except the online documentation subscribed by the University)
  • Use the catalogue
  • Enjoy exhibitions and events
  • Use the WiFi (with his laptop or on the library "visiteur" computer)
  • Ask a librarian for advice
  • Use the chat room and email service
  • Attend libraries workshops

Free membership

Registration is free of charges for :

  • Students, teachers, researchers and staff from:
    • University of Rennes(including ENSSAT, IGR, IUT, IPAG)
    • EHESP
    • ENSCR
    • Sciences Po Rennes
    • Agro Rennes-Angers Insitute
    • INSA Rennes
    • ENS Rennes
    • universities of Angers, Bretagne Occidentale, Bretagne Sud, Le Mans, Nantes and Rennes 2
    • EDUC Network: University of Potsdam (Germany), University of Paris-Nanterre, University of Masaryk (Czech Republic), University of Cagliari (Italy), University of Pécs (Hungary), University of Jaume I (Spain), University of South East Norway (Norway)

Free membership for the university year

  • Some Rennes non university hospital practitioners ("CHU de Rennes")

Free membership for twelve months
Please provide: student card or business card

  • Job seekers and recipients of social minima

Free membership for 12 months
Please provide: notification of the service, or receipt, or certificate of payment from the service provider (original or copy within the lastn 6 months mentioning the name and address of the beneficiary), proof of identity and proof of currant address

  • Refugee:

Free membership for twelve months
Please provide: proof of identity, proof of situation (OFPRA receipt for example) and proof of current address

  • Retired people from the University of Rennes (teachers, researchers, staff)

Free membership for 12 months
Please provide: proof of status (old pay slip without limit date, or decree of admission to retirement), proof of identity and proof of currant address

Paid membership

In all other cases, registration at the library is not free.

2022-2023 rates :

External registered user 3 months 15 €
External registered user 12 months 40 €
French universities students and staff 12 months 30 €

Please provide:

The libraries take cash and cheques (ordre : Régisseur de l'Université de Rennes 1). They do not accept credit/debit cards.

Paramedical students : for the paramedical students benefiting from the universitarisation of the paramedical studies (nursing, nursing anaesthetist, pedicurists-chiropodists, radio manipulators and ergothératpeuthes), Student and Campus Life Contributions do not include library fees. Registration is therefore subject to a fee. Registration for 3 months or 12 months, as you prefer.

Please provide: Student card, proof of identity and proof of currant address.

Cards use at the library

  • Korrigo Service card: the multi-service card of the University of Rennes.
  • Student card: if you do not have a Korrigo Services card and you are a student at the University of Rennes
  • Card provided by the library: if you do not have a Korrigo Services card and you are not a student at the University of Rennes

Patrons from outside the university

You wish to register and you are non-members of the the University of Rennes? You may complete the pre-registration form.

It’s not necessary if you are a student, teacher or other staff from the University of Rennes.

This form constitutes a pre-registration: the informations sent are verified by the librarians and used for your registration. They will contact you (within 48 hours on weekdays), once the registration is ready, to finalize the operation.

Specific cases:

  • Paramedical students, whether or not affiliated to the University of Rennes, do not benefit from  free of charge registration.
  • CHU: some Rennes hospital practitioners, although not member of the university ("CHU de Rennes") may benefit from free registration. Please write  to buchuatlistes [dot] univ-rennes [dot] fr. to know if you’re eligible.
  • EHESP students in Public Health M1, Piloting public health policies and actions M2, Disability and social participation M2, Youth M2 will enjoy free registration.  Registration is charged for other  EHESP programs.
  • INSA Rennes: subscription is free of charge, but prior registration in INSA library is necessary.

Documents required:

If you are from the University of Rennes: proof of identity (student card, professional card or identity card).

If you are not from the University of Rennes, 3 categories of  documents are requested:

  •  ID proof. Are accepted:
    • National identity card
    • Passport
    • Driving license
    • Residence permit
  • Proof of address in your name (or document attesting to the current address for refugees). Are accepted:
    • Telephone bill (including mobile telephone bill)
    • Electricity, gas, water bill
    • Receipt of rent (from a social organization or a real estate agency) or title deed
    • Taxation notice or certificate of non-taxation
    • Proof of taxe d'habitation [housing tax]
    • Certificate or invoice for housing insurance
    • Caf statement mentioning housing-related aids

A copy of an electronic invoice is accepted. Proof must be less than 3 months old. 

  • Proof of situation for beneficiaries of the reduced rate or free
    • Student enrolled in a public university or an approved establishment: student card or certificate of enrollment
    • Teacher, researcher or staff of a public university or an approved establishment: professional card or equivalent
    • Job seeker or beneficiary of social minima: notification of the service, or receipt, or certificate of payment from the service provider (original or copy of less than 6 months mentioning the name and address of the beneficiary)
    • Refugee: OFPRA receipt for example
    • Retired people from the University of Rennes: old pay slip without limit date, or decree of admission to retirement

Sesame account

A Sesame account is set up when you register. The user name and password enable you to login in to computers, your library account,  the WiFi...

  • Users from the University of Rennes: your Sesame account is used at the library.
  • Other users: You receive receive by email the connection and validation elements of your Sesame account, within one hour of your registration or the following day at the latest.You must change the password to activate it. You can do this either online, via the University of Rennes ENT home page, select « Lecteur extérieur » [ External registered user ].
