Membership and loan

How to join us, how to borrow, which types of items and for how long?

How to join the library?

Once a member, you can:

Borrow laptop, office and small equipement

You can borrow in the 3 libraries:

  • laptop for the academic year
  • small equipment: chargers, headphones, cables, lamps, etc.
  • computer equipment: laptop, video projector, DVD player, etc.
  • adapted equipment: keyboard with enlarged characters, trackball mouse, high-light lamp

The loan of equipment is for library members only.

To be used on site or outside the library, depending on the case.

Return library items

The documents are to be returned to the library reception. The librarian records the return and informs you of any delay.

At the BU Beaulieu, you can also use the self-service machine check in your documents, except for DVDs.

You can return your documents in any of the university libraries contributing to the library drive service. For example, return documents belonging to the BU Beaulieu, to the BU Villejean Santé.

Book drop box

Your borrowed documents must be returned without delay but you cannot come during the librarires opening hours? A book drop box is at your disposal in front of the university library!

  • BU Beaulieu: in front of the building 40 entrance, on the left
  • BU Centre: 1, rue de la Borderie (possible returns during extended hours opening)
  • BU Villejean Santé: in front of the library entrance, on the right

You can use the drop box during libraries closing times (except BU Centre). Returned books are scanned in every morning after checking their status. Items put into the drop box after business hours will be backdated to the previous business day. Unless this operation is performed, documents will remain on your account and you will still be liable for them. The same late charges apply regardless of whether the overdue materials are returned via the drop box or at the library desk.

Please deposit only documents from the Université de Rennes libraries. When the drop box is full,  the drawer automatically lock up. Please do not force it. Should the drop box be full or locked, please keep your library items, do not leave them outside the box.

During the end of year and summer closures, we cannot open the drop box due to its limited capacity.

In case of delay

You can check the number of documents you have on loan and their due dates at any time via your library account.

  • We send you an email reminder 2 days before the loan period expires
  • You will receive a 1st overdue message by email when you are one week late and you cannot borrow a new document

Your account is suspended: you can no longer borrow new documents or use the library account services such as extension or remote loan.
The suspension period is equal to the delay (10 days delay= 10 days suspension).

  • You will receive a 2nd overdue message by email when you are 2 weeks late
  • After two overdue messages, you will receive a 3rd email, with "arrêt-dossier" [blocking of your file in registrar's offices]. You won't be able to validate your year.

You just need to return your loans to remove the suspension. In case of an "arrêt-dossier", please refer to a librarian to remove the suspension.
